The Beginning
I got my drivers license when most American Teens do, at the age of 16. At first i went crazy and drove everywhere and anywhere just to drive. But, after a while driving became an every-day thing and it got old, kind of like a new video game gets old after a while. Of course i would still drive to the places i needed to go, but i wouldn't drive to unnecessary places just to drive. My first year of driving went very well, no accidents, no cops pulling me over, no problems whatsoever. After that year was up, that changed.

My First Close Call
Right after i turned 17 i began getting into many close calls while driving. My first one was while driving in the winter. On the road that i take to school there is a series of 2 stop lights about 100 yards apart from each other, that change together from green to red and vice versa. The roads were a little icy and i was going 45 (the speed limit) when i got past the first light, and when i got about 40 yards away from the other it changed to yellow and i tried to slow down so i could stop and when i did i started drifting sideways so i released from the brakes and went through the now red light, hoping that no cops were around to see what just happened. With my luck, there happened to be a State Trooper that had turned right, right after i went through the red light. He turned his siren on and shined his light into my mirror. I of course pulled over, and he came to the window. He asked me for my license and registration and i gave him the license and kept looking for my registration of the vehicle, when he came back he gave me my license and told me the registration wasn't necessary. He also told me he was letting me off with a warning this time, and to be more careful with the way i was driving in those conditions.

River Bound?
About 1 week after that incident, it was about 9PM and i was driving home from a basketball game, when i went to break and a stop sign and i just drifted through it when i realized i was headed right towards a river. That's when i really began to panic, i had no idea what to do so i just let it happen and luckily, I spun around once and ended up about a foot into the opposite ditch of the river, i don't have any idea of how i ended up there and not the river. I once again was very lucky.

The Scariest One of Them All
Next came the scariest of them all. I was with my 2 of my friends and one of their sisters. The 2 friends were on the front seat while i was in the back, along with the sister. The side i was on had a door that wouldn't close because the lock was left open one night and frozen shut so they had bungee corded it shut. I also had the genius idea to not wear a seat belt. The friend that was driving turned onto a street and accelerated at the same time with intentions to drift a little and go back to normal, but that is far from what happened. We spun around in 3 circles, hit a sign that said, 'Drive With Care' and knocked that over. While all of this was happening, i was thrown into the door, which flung open because the bungee cord was no match for all of my weight against the door. I landed in the ditch and watched as the Suburban slid towards me. I felt like i was frozen and all i could manage to do was just watch. When the car finally stopped 3 inches from me I laid there in awe, trying to gather myself so i could get back into the car. Once i managed to do so, i got into the car and we drove away, somehow, i was unscratched, and the next day i had one little bruise on my back and no other injuries.

Those three things that happened were all in the winter, with ice covered roads.

Too Worried About The Cop
One day i was driving to go to a girls soccer game, and at the same series of 2 stop lights i was following a cop who was turning left into a McDonalds parking lot so i watched as he did that making sure i was driving correctly. While this was happening the light changed to red, and i was 20 yards away from the light, with traffic crossing where i was headed. I slammed on the brakes and slid to a stop 4 feet over the white line and about 5 inches from hitting the back end of a car that was turning left.

Almost Smoked by Semi
The most recent one was about 3 or 4 weeks ago when i was riding with the same 2 friends again heading to the mall. We got into some stupid argument about 2 bikes that looked like 1, and the friend that was driving was looking at me in the back seat and not paying attention to the road. When he looked up we were in the on-coming lane with a Semi heading right for us. He swerved to the right and we barely missed the semi.

Some of you may be thinking that i speed and go way over the speed limit, but the most i speed is 5 over unless I'm really late and on the express way.

As you can see, I don't have the greatest luck driving or riding in cars. I'm just hoping that i don't get into a accident that injures me, or more importantly i cause one that injures another person.

" He put his thoughts and feelings into it, and, well, I believe he elaborated on his point very nicely." "I really enjoyed this thread. It's not many a times that you get a thread as good as this in the 'My World' section, eh? Definitely SOTW!".. All i can say is well done.

Hehe, an FA who can write a lot :)

Wow, here the limit age is 18, but there are many young people who drive from 16 without a license of course. I am more than 18 years old but I won't get any driver license because driving is not something that interests me, walking is my favorite hobby and then comes football of course, so you can easily realize that I prefer walking instead of using a car.

As about the thread, the third one is a miracle because if someone fells from the car, the speed of the fall gets multiplied by 5 of the kilometers that the car is being driven when (s)he fells, so if the car's speed, for example, is 20 kilometers/hour which is as low as I can think, like humans walk on the snail's pace, that means that that person would fell with 100 kilometers. You are not lucky, you are SO lucky that you survived from that.

A similar accident had happened to me 4 years ago in the Christmas eve:

When I was ready to cross the road in the other side, a car fell into me and I was saved without a scratch. Imagine me in a side view and the car in the road with 70 kilometers/hour, the front part of the car passed near to my body and the front double glass of the car headed my head, it threw me in a 5 meters distance on a yellow fence like them that are in streets with a Π shape, but I myself didn't feel a thing even if I fell with 5x70 = 350 kilometers/hour - I was safe and sound, but the front glass of the car was broken.

Thanks for the thread cow, I liked reading it, it kept my interest from the beginning till the end and there was a lot of suspense. I would like to say keep us informed with your car accidents cases in the future, but I prefer this to not happen for your own good...

P.S. A cow and a puma are posting here, I think there is no place for me here :P

O.o

Congratulations on still being alive. You too, S0meb0dy.

I can drive but I have never been in an accident (or not a serious one, bar a few bumps in car parks) because I mainly drive in the city. which means I can't go very fast in traffic (getting into 4th gear is a novelty.)

One thing you should always do is wear a seatbelt. They will raise the probability of you surviving a serious crash and you need all the help you can get in that situation.

Well written thread, btw.

wow! lucky your alive! i got my drivers permit at 17 and my license 2 months ago, a month after i turned 18. i always rode the bus to get to places. i always that if you ride the bus and the bus gets into an accident, its not your problem, its the county and the the city's problem. compared to getting into an accident with your car, you have to pay for repairs and if you hit someone, pay a lawyer if you know what i mean ;). so far, i haven't been in an accident too

If this cow ever happens to make it to Los Angeles, I'll drive. I do like going fast (made it from my parent's place to six flags in 20 minutes before :O) but I'm actually a pretty good driver. People crash into me, so far, I don't crash into them >:)

Wow cow, that's just.. wow. Honestly, if I had been in the situation of falling out of a car only turning around to find it coming at me, I'd need to get some help. You just violated all rules of death, obviously you're a man that he wants dearly. There's something special about you for sure :D

Now I know the reason why my parents won't let me go get a permit or license. Sadly, I have to wait until I'm 18 or out of their care. We've been in some accidents ourselves and my family is lucky to be alive. We were hit by a semi that swerved into us and drove off into the night, whilst we were headed off the interstate and towards some trees. Thankfully, my father being the good driver that he is, was able to get out back onto the interstate but we had a flat tire, no bumper, rear view mirror, and a smashed up hood. How does that happen? No idea, but I assume the driver of the semi was probably half asleep at the wheel considering it was around 1 in the morning.

I'm just glad that you're still alive and here with us today.
